December? December

Ahoy.

I'm afraid I have nothing new to report. Other than that I am writing. :)
Writing a new book from scratch is definitely a lot harder than writing a sequel. I spend more time researching weird ideas and thoughts rather than just adding to the existing world.

Things are moving though, I do so swear.

In other news, I'm considering dropping an Omnibus edition of the trilogy at a reduced cost for a period of 3-6 months only. Then retiring it completely.

I'm not in favor of an Omnibus edition, but so many of you have asked about it, I feel compelled to make one.

November Update: Where you at?

Evening gents and ladies.

Been writing. Taking the pen to the anti-hero/sociopathic hero litrpg story.

So far, so good. It's definitely a lot slower going with a new novel that has no pre-existing backstory.

I might start posting things as we go. Suffice it to say, I think I like it so far.

Sorry for the minimalist update, nothing truly mind shattering to report.

The Trilogy is Done: So... now what?

10/16/16: Updated with chapter 1 for the AntiHero story.

I find myself at an interesting place to be.

I had never planned on writing books. It just... kind of happened. I've put no effort into marketing and zero concern about spreading my books around on websites and forums.

Honestly, this is mostly for fun and as a hobby. :)

But I've told my tale. So, now what?

I'm considering what I want to do next. I have some ideas for books but I'm not quite sure what to do.

I think I'll post a few test chapters of various things here and see what you all think as we go along. You patient few who actually visit the blog. :D

Right now I've got a couple ideas. Here they are in a generic 1 paragraph format. Full honesty up front, some of these have only a 1 page outline, and others already have a significant portion written. (One of them all the way up to 45,000 words)

  1. An Anti Hero story(LitRPG)- A sociopathic hitman is whisked away to another world while on contract. Unfortunately the whisking away makes him very visible during the process and he's shot in the heart, only to die upon entering the new world. He's reborn and allowed to keep all the memories of his old life, minus the things that had made him sociopathic to begin with. That and everything to him has the appearance and feel of a video game from his original world. What does a ex-sociopathic military trained contract hitman do in a renaissance world?
  2. Urban Fantasy- Everyone remembers tales of the boogie man. The monster in the closet. That you'd hide under the sheets to get away from him. What if the boogie man wasn't only true, but nearly an extinct species? The main character is one of the last remaining boogie men in the 21st century. The rest of his kind being hunted to extinction by other supernatural races, all for fear of the power of a boogieman. Main character is simply trying to survive in a modern world with a supernatural bent.
  3. Super Hero / Super Villain(LitRPG Lite)- Felix has a pretty crappy super power. He has the ability to modify any item he owns. Except that the amount of power it takes to actually change, modify, or upgrade anything worthwhile is beyond his abilities. Realizing that he'll never be able to do anything with it, he gets a normal job. This all changes one day when the city he lives in is taken over by Super Villains. Which is to say, not a whole lot changes, but the black market opens some new options for him. He discovers a way to augment his power and make it useful.

Drop your thoughts in the comments if you don't mind sharing. :) I can't promise I'll heed the comments, but I promise I'll read them.

Otherlife Awakenings: Audiobook update

Howdy.

Jeff, my narrator, is trying something different.

He's recording the Audio Book for book 3, Otherlife Awakenings, now so we can launch Kindle + Audio Book at the same time.

It's interesting to watch him as he goes.

Catch him here as he actually records the book. :)

Otherlife Awakenings: September Update.

Otherlife Awakenings:

It's been sent over to Jeff Hays to begin recording the audio book. Once he's done, we'll be posting it to Audible. The day it goes live is the same day i'll be pushing the actual book.

We're trying out a dual release approach to see what happens.

Related news, Jeff has mentioned he plans on recording the book live. If you'd like to hear him, get a sneak peak on the next book, or get an idea on how he does the process, watch for updates here: https://twitter.com/fiatcelebrity

Next Book:

I've already started writing another book. Last count I was 21k words into it after 2 weeks. I think it's coming along in an interesting way so far. Will update with more as I get further along.

Otherlife Awakenings: Mid-month update

Howdy folks. to my own surprise, I've already written 92,000 words for book 3. I'm on target to be finishing it alot sooner than I expected.

With that in mind, please drop me a line at WilliamDArand@gmail.com if you'd like to be considered as a Beta Reader for book 3.

The only requirement is that you obviously need to read the book when I send it to you (the time limit is 1 week from when I send it over) and that you have a gmail account.

Thanks in advance for whoever volunteers.

Otherlife Awakenings: July Update

Good evening everyone,

Awakenings is moving at a great pace right now. It's currently sitting at 68,000 words. For comparison, Nightmares was a total of 120,000 words.

Many a late night writing away in the wee hours of the morning. That and bothering people on Facebook for opinions when I hit a story snag.

Otherlife Nightmares seems to have done pretty well. By and large most people enjoy it. Admittedly it's quite a bit darker than the first story, but what is growth without conflict? :)

As I continue to work at closing this trilogy I begin to consider what I shall write next. I think when the time comes I may post a chapter 1 and back of book blurb for each of the two stories and see what people's opinions are on the matter.

Before I close, a question has come up repeatedly that I felt would be worth answering here as well.

Runner's world isn't over.

Just this trilogy.

I do plan on returning to that world in other stories. Both from Runner's POV and other's. I just felt the need to tell a different story first.

Other than that, I hope you all have a fun and safe fourth of July.

Otherlife Awakenings: First update

Otherlife Awakenings is already in production. I am currently at the 30% mark for the novel.

This novel will mark the ending of the Selfless Hero trilogy.

Hope you're all enjoying/enjoyed book 2.

Otherlife Nightmares has passed through the beta readers and is now in it's second pass. It'll be going to the editor shortly.

Hooray!

Otherlife Nightmares: May update

And done.

118,496 words.

I'm sending the completed book to the beta readers to give it a once over and see if anything doesn't fit.

After and during that i'll be going over the material on a "second pass." For me this entails rewriting anything that doesn't make sense on a second read through.

A good example of this is originally in book 1 there was an extended scene in the alley with Katarina and Runner hiding from the tracker.
It didn't fit very well with the rest of the book so it was deleted as a whole.

Once we're done with the second pass this'll be sent off to the editor while the artist builds the cover.

Then it'll go to amazon.

This one went faster than the first book. Primarily because the first book was a lot of me hand wringing and being nervous if people would even like it.

Supportive reviews are the best thing in the world for a writer I've come to realize.

Right, then.

See ya'll soon. :)

Otherlife Nightmares: April update

First, the actual update. We're now at the 60,000 word mark. We had some interruptions during March that gave us a hiccup or two. At this rate we'll need to start picking up beta readers for when we finish.

Next, in getting an edited version of the book I felt justified in having an audiobook made. The narrator will begin work on it this month.

I also felt justified in going through createspace to set up a paper back. The cover for it is below and it's going through the final stages of Createspace to show up on amazon.

Thursday, March 31, 2016

Back to work on Otherlife Nightmares now. :)

Otherlife Nightmares: March Update

We've reached the official halfway point of my 90,000 word goal, 45,000.

Keep on keepin' on. Skull thrones don't build themselves.

That second edition

Recently I've struck a deal with an editor to go through Book 1 and clean it up. While admittedly most of those who were interested have already read the book, it felt...rude...to leave the book in the state it was in.

While this won't be completed immediately, I'm hopeful to have a second edition of Otherlife Dreams out in April. This of course will simply be an updated version of the original, which means Amazon should automatically push the newer version to all current owners.

Otherlife Nightmares: Update

Currently sitting at 25,000 words for the second book. For reference, the first book was 90,000 words.

Editing has started up as well.  We're moving along a lot faster than I had previously hoped.

Well on track for a summer release.

Dethroned Game of Thrones

Well, Amazon put me in a strange genre to begin with. Though it's rather amusing to know I dethroned Game of thrones.

Hah.  :)

Revisions and Editing

Readers have been notifying me of problems they found in the book and i'm considering fixing them. Then of course updating the book with those changes.

I wonder if that would be helpful or a hindrance? It may assist new readers but not those who acted as the vanguard and read through it.

Perhaps it would help a re-read? Ponder, ponder.

An interesting thought

Someone suggested the idea of posting Classes/Abilities/Skills to the web or including an appendix in the back.

I hadn't thought of this before but it seems like it might prove beneficial. I'm considering creating a revision for the 1st book with this information in the back.

Thanks Heath. :)

Book 2: Otherlife Nightmares

Work continues.
The outlining process finished the day I published book one. Writing has begun in earnest and we're on our way.

I find myself wondering what people thought about my characters as I continue to delve into their minds and psyches.

The Journey Begins

And so we venture out into the wild world of "Indie Author".

Have mercy on my poor self.
